How Do I Meet People?

Newton County Baptist Church is not a place for spectators. It is a place for team members. Whether you are an eighteen year old, a ninety-five year old grandmother, a busy mom, or a businessperson with big responsibilities, we want you to be a part of our vibrant church community. Here is how you can learn, serve, and grow at Newton County.

Sunday School:

Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, Newton County Baptist Church has Sunday School every Sunday morning at 10:00. The classes are divided into age groups while others are based on topic or gender. Each class is geared toward helping everyone in the class connect on a deeper level with God and with each other!

Each Sunday morning, children get to participate in their own classes. Bible lessons are taught in such a way that every child gets to participate and learn. Each of the class teachers is carefully screened and thoroughly trained in children’s instruction.

Wednesday Night Ministry: Rooted Student Ministry and AWANA

Rooted Student Ministry: Wednesday nights are a key night for Youth Ministry at NCBC. Pastor Hunter and several volunteers work with 7th to 12th grade students at the youth center. Along with a social time so the youth workers can build relationships with the students, their is game time, a meal, and a Bible lesson. Students are encouraged to take part in thought-provoking conversations regarding living a Christian life in a worldly culture.

AWANA Ministry: We have a wonderful staff of volunteers that help with the AWANA program on Wednesday nights. Kids from Pre-K through 6th grade are taught how important it is to memorize Bible verses and are guided and encouraged as they learn verses that they can keep with them the rest of their lives. A normal Wednesday night in AWANA consists of game time, scripture memorization, a meal, and a object lesson/devotion by our Children’s Pastor, David Day.

Women’s Ministry:

Ladies Prayer and Share: Newton County Baptist Church’s Ladies’ Fellowship gives the ladies in our church family special times of interaction. Our women’s group meets on Tuesday mornings at 9:30, and provide a time of Bible study, prayer & fellowship. These times together provide a refreshing discipleship opportunity for the women in the church. Margaret Webb and Nona Guynn facilitate this women’s group.

Adult Bible Study:

We also have adult Bible Studies on the third Sunday night of each month. We meet from 5:30-7:30 and start with a finger food fellowship then break off into our specific groups. It is a great opportunity to get to know more of the church family in a small group setting. These Bible studies are usually video driven with Pastor David Day facilitating the men’s study and Nona Guynn facilitating the women’s study.

I HEART Newton County:

I would like to share with you the heart of our church family.  This is not meant to brag, but to let you know that as a church we take the Gospel seriously when Jesus said in Matthew 28:19 to “Go”.

“I HEART Newton County” is an outreach ministry of NCBC.  Throughout the year, church volunteers have the privilege of serving our neighbors in area communities in a variety of ways.  This has included clothing giveaways, providing children with school supplies for a new school year, helping the nursing home in Jasper to prepare garden beds for planting, and serving meals to teachers in Mt. Judea and Jasper schools.  The biggest event the last 5 years is the Easter Egg Drop, held in Mount Judea. The children enjoyed various fun activities, such as bounce houses, carnival-style games, face painting and a Gospel presentation during the time leading up to the big event, then watched as eight thousand candy-filled eggs were dropped from a helicopter onto the field below. It doesn’t take long for the excited children to gather them all up!  All of this is done so we can get into the communities and build relationships with our neighbors with the purpose of sharing the Gospel.

Music Ministry:

Our music ministry is led by Kim Campbell. Each Sunday morning the church family is led into a time of praise and worship that incorporates traditional hymns, praise choruses, and contemporary worship songs. Accompaniment is provided by Betty Dillenberg on piano, Nona Guynn on the organ, and Nate Allen on guitar. Opportunities for involvement in the music ministry of the church include special music on Sunday mornings, participation in the Easter choir program, and involvement in “Christmas at the Country Church”, which includes both speakers and musicians.
